MEET MRS. FRAZIER
Hello Sierra Vista families!
My name is Danielle Frazier and I am thrilled to be teaching English at Sierra Vista. This will be my seventh year at Sierra Vista and I am excited to see some new faces. I am a mom to a very stubborn, excitable, loving toddler which leads me to learn new and amazing things each day that I look forward to utilizing in the classroom.
I earned my Masters in Education at the University of California, Davis in 2018; once an Aggie, always an Aggie. Though college is not the goal for every student, it is important to me that all students are reminded that it is an option no matter their background, and the key skills we teach through classroom experiences will later help us on our path to success. Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” In order to begin shaping the world to our vision, we must first learn to master our voice through education.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland for about six years. I then moved to California for the first time in 2000. In 2005, I picked up and moved to New Jersey. Then, once again, I made the leap back to California in 2012, where I graduated high school. You can say that I understand what it's like to be the "new kid" at school. I have an understanding of how difficult it can be to start over at a new and strange place.
My classroom teaches acceptance, which means voices can and should be heard, but kindness and respect must be priority. A famous poet and civil rights activist, Audre Lorde brilliantly remarked, “It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences,” which is a saying that truly represents my classroom. We celebrate our uniqueness and strive to conquer our fears. It is important to celebrate all things good in order to remind ourselves of our value in this strange and stressful world. Remember that we all must accept our fellow classmates’ rights to express themselves and be themselves while supporting one another during times of need.
Determination and hard work are very important in a classroom setting but we also take lots of time to have fun and act silly while learning. I am a big advocate for project-based learning and collaboration. Be prepared to dive deep into a world of mystery and tragedy as we explore debates, heroic adventures, dystopias, the Holocaust, and even Shakespeare’s comedy Midsummer Nights Dream.
