MEET MRS. COOK
Dear Sierra Vista Families,
Welcome! I am so excited to be teaching 1st grade at Sierra Vista for my second year. I have been teaching for a total of 13 years in California and Washington. During my teaching career I found my love and passion for primary grade students, especially in teaching reading. I graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelors in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2008. I also received my Masters in Arts Degree in Teaching Specialization in Reading from National University in 2013.
I am passionate about learning and teaching young children. I hold high expectations for myself and my students and love to watch them grow and learn. I believe in building relationships with my students and their families and building a partnership together. My classroom becomes a family through daily morning meetings focusing on social emotional learning and building a classroom community together. It is really important that we have a safe and welcoming environment for all students allowing them to take risks and grow together.
I like to have fun and bring lessons and activities to life through movement and music. I am also a tap dance teacher at a local dance studio and teach competitive level tap classes some evenings. Music and dance helped me find my passion for teaching and I am thankful to be able to incorporate it daily in my classroom.
My family and I moved to Vacaville two years ago. My husband and I have two amazing children who also attend Sierra Vista. I am so proud that we are all able to be Grizzlies together and become part of this amazing Sierra Vista community. When I am not teaching at school or at the dance studio I love to go to live concerts any chance I get. As a family we enjoy swimming, playing with our two dogs, going to the beach, fishing, exploring the outdoors, games and being around our extended family as much as we can.
I can’t wait to meet each and every 1st grader in my class and be able to watch them grow and learn throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cook
