MEET MS. RODRIGUEZ
Dear Sierra Vista Parents,
My name is Sylvia Concepcion Rodriguez and I am honored to be your 1st grade teacher. This will be my seventh year teaching at Sierra Vista K-8 School. It is awesome to be a part of this K-8 School community. During our pandemic, I moved up to 1st grade and I truly love teaching this grade level. Despite the after effects of COVID, I was so thrilled to have the students back in the classroom. This year there was a lot of social and academic growth in all areas. I am so excited to work with 1st graders and eventually be able to see them get promoted to high school. This year I will get a chance to see my first kindergartners become 8th graders. I have been an educator for 22 years. This will now be my 3rd year teaching 1st graders.
I have taught K, K/1, 3rd grade, 4th, 4/5 combo, and 6th grade. My mission as your child’s teacher is to assist him or her to continue the joy of learning and introducing the growth mindset that they have the ability to achieve. Also, that mistakes are little miracles that get us to grow. I also teach that it is ok not to know something but “not to try” is not ok. We teach the ideas of philanthropy, service learning and the strategies of AVID program, which are organizational and using strategies to get them ready for college and career readiness. In my classroom not only is the academia the focus but our social emotional growth is also a focus.
I have a bilingual/bicultural teaching credential from California State University Sacramento. I also have an Administration Credential. I love to teach reading and writing. I can’t wait to help your child become a better reader and expose them to new reading and writing adventures. I know where your child needs to go and value what they bring into the classroom. I believe in parent partnerships.
I grew up in New York City, a city that never sleeps. Perhaps that is why I am energetic and have a can do attitude. I am a proud 1st generation Ecuadorean-American and enjoy teaching English as a second language. I love to hike, camp, cook, read and spending time with my family. When I am not planning lessons or looking at assessments I go to my strength, weight lifting and Zumba classes.
I believe in compassionate teaching and set high expectations for myself and my students. I think it is important to work as a classroom family and again I value parent partnership. We together will have that opportunity not only in Kindergarten but across the grade levels to be connected and watch your child grow and learn until he or she leaves us for high school. This year our community continues to be resilient and collaboratively we will finish our school year strong and full of memories.
Sincerely,
Ms. Rodriguez
