MEET MS. REMY

Dear Sierra Vista Families,
I am looking forward to my fifth year as the Elementary and 6 th  and 7 th  grade PE teacher.  Sierra Vista is a very special community and I am humbled and honored to be a part of it.
A little about me:  I am originally from the East Coast, mostly Philadelphia, but I've also lived in Haiti, Key West, FL, and West Africa.  I’ve been a baker, street performer, worked a desk job during the dotcom boom and even played private eye for a year.  My journey to becoming a teacher of Physical Education has been a little unconventional.  In 2001 and 2002 I did an intensive movement based expressive arts program at Tamalpa Institute, where I studied with modern dance pioneer Anna Halprin. It was
there that I learned that the body has its own wisdom, and that when we trust in it, we can live fuller, richer, and more sensible lives.  I’ve always wanted to work with children (I also believe deeply in the power of play, and encourage it at every age) so when I began subbing for PE while a stay-at-home mom, I eventually was hired full-time when my daughter turned 11, then fi earned my Single Subject Teaching Credential
in 2014.
My favorite middle school PE units include Ultimate (Frisbee), Pickleball,
Battleball, and Tumbling; my favorite elementary school PE activities include
Yoshi (ask your 2 nd -8 th grader), “Andy’s Home”, and Cross the River. It is very important to help students find physical activities they LOVE to do. It is
equally (or almost) as important to encourage students to challenge
themselves and commit to doing the difficult, or repetitive, or outright boring
stuff, too. As a teacher, I try to meet each student where they are, but also try
to guide them along their physical education journey to get to where they want to be.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Ms. Remy
Best,
Ms. Remy
