Dear Sierra Vista families,
My name is Mikayla Canales, and this is my fourth year teaching second grade at Sierra Vista. I enjoyed being a part of the Sierra Vista community the past three years, and I am excited to continue as a Grizzly. My own second grade teacher was the one who made me passionate about learning, which motivated me to become an educator. I graduated from California State University, Sacramento with my bachelor’s and National University with my credential and master’s to reach my goal of being an educator. I strive to inspire my students to achieve their own goals as well.
I believe the classroom should be a positive and safe learning environment where students are both welcomed and challenged. I encourage students to ask questions and investigate their own ideas to help them become lifelong learners. I also place a high value on collaboration. I look forward to seeing my students collaborate with each other while I also collaborate with my teaching partner and parents. Parents are an important part of the Sierra Vista community. I’m excited to communicate with my students’ parents throughout the year and work together to help students reach their goals.
When I’m not in the classroom, I love being outside and staying active. I also enjoy traveling and like to use school breaks to go on trips. Some of my other favorites include going to baseball games, reading, and spending time with my family, friends, and dogs.
I couldn’t be more excited for this school year and look forward to being part of our students’ academic journey.
Sincerely,
Ms. Canales
