MEET MRS. MCKAY
Dear Sierra Vista Families,
Howdy! It’s an honor to be returning to Sierra Vista 6th grade for the sixth year. In my classes, students will be pushed to examine who they are, how they are changing, and how the world around them came to be. Because those conversations can be tough, my students and I work together to create and maintain a safe and welcoming space for all. Success in my classroom is not based on merit alone but consists of a willingness to try and give our best effort to every task. We constantly challenge ourselves to grow by setting goals in three areas: socially, emotionally, and academically. It is my job to ensure all of my students are successful in each of these areas, whether that means making progress on a goal or achieving mastery on something they’ve been working towards.
A little bit about me - I was born and raised in Lake Jackson, a small town on the Gulf Coast of Texas. In 2018, my husband, Nathaniel, and I moved to Vacaville, California to begin his career as a musician in the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West. We are so thankful we did! We have absolutely loved our time in California. In June 2024, we welcomed our first son into the world and couldn’t be more excited. When we aren’t working, we are rock climbing, watching movies, or snuggling baby McKay. On my own, I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, and trying new recipes in the kitchen.
My passion for education started very young and my desire to learn continues to this day. In 2017, I graduated from Texas A&M with honors and a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies focused in 4th grade - 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies. I hold a Multiple Subjects Credential as well as EL Authorization for the state of California.
Sixth grade is a challenging year full of growth in more ways than one. I am looking forward to partnering with you and your students as they journey into the chaotic world of middle school. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns.
Best Regards,
Jenna McKay
