Dear Sierra Vista K-8 Community,
It is with great pleasure and excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of Sierra Vista K-8. My name is Kara Dinwiddie, and I am honored to join this successful and nurturing educational community. In this letter I hope to tell you a little bit about myself and my compassion and commitment to education.
At an early age my parents instilled the importance of education in me and because of them I am a proud graduate of Michigan State University. It was 17 years ago that I made the trek across the country to begin my journey in education. I was so fortunate to have the opportunity to complete my first years as a teacher under the great leadership of Cathy Bozzini. From the first day I stepped foot into the classroom I have felt extremely grateful for the support of my family, leaders, and each unique opportunity I have been given that has led me to where I am today.
I am blessed with a loving husband, John Dinwiddie, who is as passionate about education and family as I am, and who truly makes all of this work seamlessly, no matter the unexpected and crazy things life brings. We are lucky to have him as a member of our staff teaching 7th grade history. We are the proud parents of two amazing kiddos that remind us each day of all the little things that make life great. John III will be going into 5th grade at Sierra Vista this year and continues to try and persuade me to allow 5th graders to play sports :) His passion for basketball, reading and entertaining us is greatly enjoyed by all! Jaclyn will be starting her first year of high school and has joined cross country and will be a part of the VECHS program at Will C. Wood. She is working towards her goal of attending UC Davis to become a veterinarian.
My Education background includes a 5 year program at Michigan State University in which I achieved both my Special Education Credential K-12 and Multiple Subject General Education Credential K-8. After making the move to California, I later went on to pursue my moderate to severe Special Education Credential in 2008 and completed my Administration Credential with National University and Solano County Office of Education in 2020. With 17 years of experience in the field of education, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion for fostering student growth and success.
For the past 5 years, I had the privilege of serving as a Special Education Coordinator in Vacaville Unified School District. This role allowed me to develop a comprehensive understanding of the diverse needs of students and the importance of creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all. Prior to my role as a Special Education Coordinator, I served as a dedicated educator in both general education, special education and as a program specialist. Serving as an educator in various capacities has equipped me with a deep understanding of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and effective leadership practices. I am committed to promoting academic excellence, fostering a positive school culture, and building strong relationships with students, staff, families and the broader community.
As I step into the role of principal at Sierra Vista K-8, I am inspired by the school’s reputation for academic achievement, its commitment to embracing each student’s individual needs, and the collaborative spirit of its dedicated staff. I am eager to work alongside each of you to continue the school’s tradition of excellence and to create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their goals.
I am truly honored to serve as the principal of Sierra Vista. I look forward to meeting and getting to know each member of the Sierra Vista K-8 community- students, parents, teachers, and staff. Together, let us embark on an exciting journey of growth, learning and success.
Sincerely,
Kara Dinwiddie
Principal, Sierra Vista K-8
