Mrs. Mares

My name is Mrs. Mares, and I’m so excited to be your RTI (Response to Intervention) Coordinator here at Sierra Vista. Go Grizzlies! I feel incredibly lucky to be part of this amazing school community. I’ve been in education for 12 years, with most of that time spent teaching first grade. Throughout my career, I’ve developed a deep love for helping young learners grow into confident, capable readers and problem-solvers. Watching a child light up when something finally clicks is one of the best parts of my job!

In my role as RTI Coordinator, I’ll be working closely with teachers and students to provide targeted support in reading and foundational skills. I use engaging, hands-on strategies that are grounded in the science of reading, phonics, and phonemic awareness. My goal is to meet each student where they are and help them grow into their full potential. I truly believe every child can succeed with the right support and encouragement.

A little about me: I grew up in the beautiful town of Napa, California and later attended Chico State, where I earned my bachelor's degree in education with a minor in mathematics. After that, I went on to get my teaching credential from Touro University. When I’m not at school, I love being outdoors. I enjoy hiking, camping and just going on a walk with my family. My husband is a firefighter and we have two amazing kids who bring so much joy and energy to our lives, along with our two dogs who are always up for an adventure.

This school year is going to be filled with learning, laughter, and exciting new experiences. I’m so looking forward to supporting our students and celebrating all the growth and achievements we’ll see along the way. It’s going to be a fantastic year together!
