Dear Sierra Vista Middle School Families,
My name is Nat Quesenberry and I am excited to join you as your 7th grade science teacher. The 2022-23 school year will be my first at Sierra Vista. This coming year will be my fifth year teaching. My students have ranged in age from fifth grade on up to juniors in high school, but my primary focus has been middle school students.
Growing up, my family lived in Nepal, and then in Southeast Asia. My father was a veterinarian who worked with farmers. Due to that background, I became fascinated with the life sciences and earned an undergraduate degree from UC Davis in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. After university I worked in a number of jobs- ranging from laboratory assistant with the USDA and veterinary assistant to fish farmer and Peace Corps Volunteer. While working in these other jobs, I became aware of the need for teachers, and a colleague recommended that I try my hand as a teacher. After volunteering as a teacher, I decided to pursue a teaching credential, and recently (2021) graduated from William Jessup University, with a Master of Arts in Teaching.
I believe that we are all life-long learners, regardless of what career we chose, or our position in life. I look forward to working with my students to develop the skills to help them understand the world around them. Learning requires a confidence that we have the ability to master new concepts and ideas, and also the humility to recognize that we still have a lot that we don’t know. I think that learning new ideas, and discovering new facts about the world around us, also brings us a sense of joy and excitement. I hope to share in that experience with my students.
I live down the road, in Davis. When I am not in school, I enjoy gardening, being outside, reading books, and fishing. I appreciate time spent with family and friends from work and church, and on the road exploring our area.
I look forward to getting to know you,
Mr. Quesenberry
