Dear Sierra Vista Community,
My name is Heather Tuttle and I’m very excited to be teaching third grade. I received my bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies with an emphasis in music from Bethany University. I continued on to get my multiple subject credential and a masters degree in Elementary Education from Bethany as well. I have always wanted to teach and work with kids, ever since I was little. I spent many years volunteering at my church to then become the children’s pastor when I lived in San Jose. I got the opportunity to work with parents, volunteers, and kids from babies up through fifth grade throughout my time there. A couple of years after taking over the children’s pastor position, my husband and I got married in June of 2017 and soon after took a church pastor position here in Vacaville in November of 2017 which was when I started subbing in this district. I had the opportunity of a lifetime to take over the long term sub position for Mrs. Horsley while she was on maternity leave. This opportunity led to me working with her and Cheryl Carter the rest of that school year where I got to learn and grow as an educator. I taught second grade at Markham in the 18/19 school year to then teach first grade for part of the 19/20 school year before transferring mid year to my current position here at Sierra Vista, third grade.
I am very passionate about students being challenged, not just academically but socially and emotionally as well. I desire to see them grow into students who become leaders and can contribute positively not just in the classroom but outside of the classroom as well. My goal is to get to know students on their level, meet them there, but then begin to raise the expectations to encourage them to meet me at that next level. I also desire to differentiate my instruction in order to meet the needs of the students and make it fun for them in the process. My hope is that my classroom is a place where students feel safe coming to, where they feel comfortable asking questions, being themselves, and is also a place where they build new, positive, encouraging friendships with one another.
When I’m not teaching or planning, you might find me watching movies or TV shows with my husband and our dog drinking coffee. I also enjoy working on puzzles, reading, playing games, and cheering on our Oakland Athletics! I love being outdoors, camping, paddle boarding, or just simply sitting on the beach listening to and watching the waves. Anywhere where there is water, I can be found there, either in it, on it, or beside it relaxing.
I absolutely love teaching third grade and can’t wait to get to know you more! I look forward to working with one another and figuring out what our students need in order to succeed.
Looking forward to a great year,
Mrs. Tuttle
